On Monday 5th February students gathered at the Iconic Ibrox Stadium, home of Rangers FC, for the second UCS / UHI face to face week of the academic year. Students were faced with a challenging, but rewarding week of lectures, small group seminars, 1:1 meetings and practical sessions. Face to face weeks are an essential element of the blended degree programme offered by UCS and it gives students and tutors the opportunity to work together in a more intense setting than regular online delivery. The two elements of the programme complement each other superbly and this is illustrated by the progress of individuals and positive feedback received. A highlight of the week was a visit for the first year students to the ‘Commando X-Fit gym’ in Glasgow. The students were able to use one another as live ‘clients’ under the guidance of tutor Dani Black as part of the Practical exercise instruction module. The majority of the time was spent on the 4th floor of Ibrox stadium in the very plush Sky Lounge, with full stadium views. This was the ideal location for some detailed academic instruction and debate on a variety of topics across modules. Thanks go to the staff at Rangers FC for making us so welcome, to Commando X-Fit gym for welcoming us to their superb facility and to the tutors, Neil Dallaway, Andy Ellis and Dani Black for providing first class learning opportunities to all students.
